Soil loss in Tattenhall
25th/26th November 2006
Your Tattenhall neighbours, while away, last weekend, enjoying a well earned break, came home, to find, they had been robbed in their absence.
Approximately 30 clear plastic bags, of good topsoil, delivered from Farndon, had ‘disappeared’ from in front of their house!
Who amongst us, could steal another man’s soil?
How was it accomplished, in broad daylight, or in the darkest hours? Why did they, do it?
The 30 bags weighing approximately 50lbs each, add up to more than a ½ ton in total. Not the sort of weight for the average boot, a trailer might have been involved, or, they might have made several trips, in a car. Someone, a nameless source, suggested, even a neighbour, equipped with little more than a garden wheelbarrow could have dared, without arousing neighbourly suspicion.
Should such small thefts be reported to the authorities? I suggest that it should be reported, if not, we run the risk of encouraging robbers to return, or, repeat this bizarre behaviour somewhere else, just as they please. What else goes unreported, disappearing garden gnomes, patio furniture, plants, whole trees possibly?
